All GitHub Page templates should be evaluated for WCAG 2.2 AA. This is such an important part of shifting accessibility left. I don't know how many new GitHub pages are created with default themes, but I imagine it is quite a lot. Fixing the code upstream will help a great deal in addressing the results.

Porting some related feedback from #180945:

When Markdown files are converted to HTML, the colors of the text, background, etc. are hard coded in the CSS as dark text on white. It would be great if that could be adapted to color preferences to aid in accessibility. Two quick suggestions:

1. Add :root{color-scheme: light dark} to the global CSS
2. Switch from hard-coded color values to system colors.

These minor changes would not break the current behavior, but would allow users to adapt the presentation to their needs (prefers-color-scheme, forced-colors, etc.).
