Light state monitoring

We have monitor the sate of the light to report it to the global system.

It seems that we need some extra sensor to detect it.

Some possibilities are:

• Extra switch to detect the state of the light switch in wall
• Current sensor in electric circuit of the light.

Alvaro told me that he likes the current sensor more than the other.

I think that the extra switch is the most cheap option. However, the current sensor seems more versatile. We can check the state of any electric component with it and that can be useful to other functionalities.

I think that maybe it would be better if we use a INDUCTIVE current sensor. It is similar to a ammeter clamp. (see here -> http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=ammeter%20clamp&go=&form=QBIL&qs=n). This way, It is more secure and easy to install in the house.

The only problem is that the clamp of this sensor can not be opened, =(. We would need one that can be opened to introduce the cable inside of it.

I don´t know which option is cheaper, but a current sensor costs about 2
euros (

and I think that is this better than the other one because the sensor is
more realiable.

That current sensor is based in Hall sensor. But it must be to connect in series with the circuit.
It would be cool to use a hall sensor without touch any wire of the electric circuit. We could buy something like this:http://dx.com/es/p/hall-magnetic-sensor-module-for-arduino-dc-5v-135033
Or buy only the hall sensor. It cost less than 1€.
But, we have to be careful. There is three types of hall sensor: simple, latching and linear. Look at this: https://vimeo.com/21847015.
I think that the simple hall is nice to capture the light state.

I have seen other type off current sensor. It is based on current transformer. Look at this: http://www.ebay.es/itm/100A-SCT-013-000-Non-invasive-AC-current-sensor-Split-Core-Current-Transformer-/271409507165?pt=BI_Circuit_Breakers_Transformers&hash=item3f31446b5d
It is a bit more expensive, about 6€. But this sensor allow us monitor the power consumption of the electric devices in the house. It is used by other free hardware project very cool: http://openenergymonitor.org/emon/modules/emonTxV3
