Proposal:
In this guide
https://devguide.python.org/getting-started/setup-building/#build-dependencies
it suggests lib-mpdec but its not available in debian 12? Perhaps its outdated package?
root@v18606:~/cpython# sudo apt-get install build-essential gdb lcov pkg-config \ libbz2-dev libffi-dev libgdbm-dev libgdbm-compat-dev liblzma-dev \ libncurses5-dev libreadline6-dev libsqlite3-dev libssl-dev \ lzma lzma-dev tk-dev uuid-dev zlib1g-dev libmpdec-dev Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree... Done Reading state information... Done Note, selecting 'libreadline-dev' instead of 'libreadline6-dev' E: Unable to locate package libmpdec-dev Has this already been discussed elsewhere?
This is a minor feature, which does not need previous discussion elsewhere
